And the Canada Green Car Award goes to – drumroll – the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt. After winning against the Hyundai Ioniq BEV and the Ford Focus EV in the all-electric cars category, the Bolt has now received the ultimate honour. The announcement was made Friday morning at the Green Living Show in Toronto.
The Bolt was chosen out of six category winners for it’s game-changing role on the market as the first affordable, mass-marketed, long-range electric vehicle. It jumped the 300-kilometre range mark to play on Tesla’s turf, but at half the price, making emission-free commuting accessible to a broader audience.
Eleven out of the thirteen judges on the 2017 panel ranked the Chevrolet Bolt first as the most innovative nominee with an accessible price point and competition-defying all-electric range.
