As we come closer and closer to March 30th, the list of the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) Canadian Car of the Year (CCOTY) and Utility Vehicle of the Year (CUVOTY) continues to shrink smaller and smaller. It’s on March 30 that the winners of both categories will be announced – watch this space on that day for all the goods.
Today, AJAC announced the three finalists for both categories, after an extensive year of testing that saw the top automotive writers from across Canada consider almost 300 vehicles for the award. So needless to say, these six vehicles have had quite the journey. Genesis, one of the newest brands in Canada will likely be pleased with this result as they have a vehicle in each category. The voting broke down as follows:

Genesis G80 (Best Mid-size Premium Car in Canada for 2021)
Kia K5 (Best Large Car in Canada for 2021)
Mazda3 (Best Mid-size Car in Canada for 2021)
The three finalists for Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year are:
Genesis GV80 (Best Mid-size Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021)
Kia Telluride (Best Large Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021)
Nissan Rogue (Best Mid-size Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021)
These vehicles beat out the following category finalists to reach “overall finalist” status:

Best Large Car in Canada for 2021: Hyundai Sonata, Kia K5, Toyota Camry
Best Mid-Size Premium Car in Canada for 2021: Cadillac CT5, Genesis G70, Genesis G80
Best Small Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021: Kia Seltos, Mazda CX-30, Subaru Crosstrek
Best Mid-Size Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021: Mazda CX-5, Nissan Rogue, Toyota Venza
Best Large Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2021: Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, Kia Telluride
