Chalk up yet another entry into the electric SUV segment: the all-new 2023 Subaru Solterra. Debuted at the LA Auto Show, it blends the brand’s rugged and safe design with the latest zero emissions tech.
The vehicle features proprietary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and, like the rest of the utility lineup, X-MODE offering extra traction in low-friction environments. The 8.3-inches of ground clearance also allows travel over most types of challenging terrain.
There’s room for five occupants and 850 litres of cargo space behind the rear 60/40 folding bench. A wide rear gate with low lift-over height, and two-position load floor, makes loading and unloading gear a simple task, and customers can add raised roof rails up top to accommodate more serious equipment.
A full complement of safety technology is included such as pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor and many others. An optional 360-degree camera is being added for the first time as well.
Output is rated at 215 horsepower and 248 pound feet of torque, and the lithium-ion battery pack (specifications TBA) provides a range of approximately 354 kilometres on a single charge.
The SUV is styled with the Subaru Dynamic x Solid design concept in mind boasting a panel in place of the traditional hexagonal grille, thin and wide LED headlamps, thick contrasting wheel arch mouldings and a unique dual-fin spoiler above the rear glass and a discreet ducktail spoiler below.
Keep an eye out for the 2023 Subaru Solterra to arrive in stores some time next year.
