The Type R is finally coming to Canada!

The Honda Civic Type R, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this week, will go on sale in Canada this summer, bringing with it a whopping 306 horsepower from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.

The price is expected to be in the low $40,000 range, Honda says.

For those who don’t want to wait until the summer to see this speedster in person, it makes its North American debut at next month’s New York International Auto Show.

On top of the 306 horses, the i-VTEC engine puts out 295 lb-ft of torque and feature a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox with rev matching capability.

The Type R also comes with an improved body, chassis and even some track-ready performance components, the automaker says.

It comes with revised spring, damper and bushing settings and a new dual-axis front suspension setup, as well as a four-wheel adaptive suspension system.

The Type R will get 20-inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes.

Honda has also upped the body’s rigidity, which helps improve steering response and cornering stability, it says.

The driver can select three drive modes – comfort, Sport (default) and +R – to handle a variety of driving conditions.

There will be a single trim for the Civic Type R, which will feature heavily bolstered sports seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift boot, aluminum shift knob, aluminum sport pedals, red Type R driver’s metre and serialized Type R plate on the centre console.

Inside, you can find a 7-inch display screen with navigation, CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a 542-watt, 12-speaker audio system.
