Fans of the Honda Civic Si are able to get a sneak peek at the new coupe and sedan models after a teaser video was released online (see below). The all-new models will go on sale in May, Honda Canada announced.
The new Civic Si becomes the first to get a turbocharged engine, a 1.5-litre direct-injection four-cylinder powerplant, with an output of 205 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with a short-throw, six-speed manual transmission.
The driver is able to choose between normal and sport driving modes.
Honda says the 2017 Si sheds a significant amount of weight than its predecessor and gets a more rigid body. The drive components also are upgraded, including dual-pinion adaptive electric power steering system with variable ratios, sport-tuned suspension, an adaptive damper system, a helical limited-slip differential, larger 12.3-inch front brake rotors and wider 235/40 R18 tires.
Styling for the Civic Si features a black “wing” front fascia, 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and a chrome centre-mounted exhaust finish. The sedan and coupe get different treatments at the rear, with the sedan getting a deck lid spoiler with a LED brake light, while the coupe continues gets the distinctive full-width light bar and a prominent raised spoiler.
Inside, the Si has bolstered front sport seats with distinctive red stitching, which carries through to the doors, steering wheel and leather shift boot.
For 2017, the Si comes with standard features like LED headlamps, wireless charging, electronic parking brake, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front sport cloth seats, heated rear seats in the sedan only and rain-sensing wipers.
The 7-inch display screen comes with navigation, and the infotainment system comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
