Each year, IDS Toronto produces special features that speak to design trends and ideas that inspire and amaze visitors.  This year’s show boasted over 220 exhibitors in the 180,00 plus square foot exhibition space. Volvo was this year’s Electric vehicle sponsor and guests got a first look of the new XC90.

Some might not expect to see the newest in Automotive design at an Interior Design show, however Volvo presented elements of interior and automotive design in a compelling yet simple Scandinavian inspired combination. Towering wood structures framed the vehicles in an open-air garage type concept, complimented by greenery and organic elements to showcase Volvo’s newest release the XC90 hybrid SUV.

The frigid cold temperatures in Toronto of the Polar Vortex didn’t keep away the thousands of people who visited the show and some lucky guests even got to test drive the new XC90 on the streets of Toronto. The premium seven-seater was drawing crowds of admiration not only for its impressive looks but also its reputation for being one of the safest cars on the road in addition to being electric car with a back-up plan.

“The new XC90 exudes confidence, and why wouldn’t it? Our hybrid flagship has been one of our best-selling models for years and it’s still a favourite among many customers,” says Jim Rowan, CEO of Volvo Cars. “Whether it’s comfort, space, luxury, versatility or hybrid efficiency you look for, the XC90 delivers on all accounts. Put together, the XC90 and its fully electric EX90 sibling provide customers with the options that suit them best and equip us with a balanced portfolio as we continue our transition towards full electrification.”

IDS Guests had a chance to sit in the booth to take a break from exploring the large show or sit in the vehicle and admire the renewed interior with a redesigned front cabin that represents the best of contemporary Scandinavian design. The dashboard has a more horizontal shape than before, incorporating decorative panels made from premium recycled materials for a more textured finish, and is split by stylish vertical air vents. Enhanced illumination has also been added to provide an even more luxurious feel at night.
