2024 Nissan Rogue SV Premium

Road Test: 2024 Nissan Rogue

Full disclosure, I owned the first generation of the Nissan Rogue and while it was ok for its time, it’s a pale imitator to the current iteration of the model.

After recently testing the 2024 Rogue SV Premium, I came away impressed and pleased with the overall product.

The design is elegant, and I appreciated the two-tone exterior treatment on our tester. Inside, the cabin is comfortable and well appointed.

And with a starting price around the mid $30,000 range, the Rogue is a relatively affordable midsize crossover. As tested, the Rogue SV Premium is closer to $48,000 but comes well equipped.

Powertrain: The engine for the all-wheel drive Rogue is a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder powerplant paired to a CVT transmission.

With an output of 201 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque, the Rogue feels confident on the road and has adequate power to be an overall enjoyable ride. And the CVT does a good job.

I was quite impressed with my fuel economy for the week with the Rogue, returning an average of 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres, better than the estimated 7.7 L/100 km.

Exterior: For 2024, the Rogue received some styling tweaks, including a revised front and rear fascia, as well as new 18 and 19-inch wheels.

The front grille is quite large and features new horizontal bars.

The SV Premium highlights the 19-inch wheels, a two-tone design that mimics the exterior paint scheme.

Interior: The cabin of the Rogue was also modified for 2024 with several upgrades providing a well-appointed space for passengers.

The driver benefits from a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, which can be tailored to your liking.

The SV Premium features quilted semi-aniline leather-appointed seats, which are heated in the front and rear outboard seats, as well as a heated steering wheel. A head-up display system also ensures all relevant information is readily available in the line of sight.

Fit and finish in the cabin appears to be quite good, and I was pleased with the overall layout of the controls in the cabin.

Road and CVT noise was a bit more than I would have liked, but not to the point of being bothersome.

Rear leg and headroom are both quite good, and there is a generous amount of storage in the cargo area.

Infotainment: The screen atop the centre console matches the 12.3-inch gauge cluster on the SV. The tester came with a Bose premium audio system with 10 speakers and a subwoofer.

It features satellite radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as wireless device charging.

The interface on the infotainment system was excellent, with no lag when scrolling menus. The radio screen, in particular when scrolling satellite radio channels, makes it easy to see the songs playing on each channel (vs some that only show the station name).

Drive: Despite having a 3-cylinder engine, the Rogue was pretty enjoyable on the road. The turbo engine is sprightly enough for highway driving, with plenty of power on hand when called upon for passing moves. In the city, the engine and CVT can sometimes be a little lurch-y in stop and go situations, but on the whole, the driving experience was quite enjoyable.

While not the most dynamic handling vehicle on the road, the Rogue controls itself well around corners, though steering response isn’t as crisp as it could be.

Conclusion: In a very crowded midsize crossover segment, the mid-cycle refresh on the Rogue for 2024 definitely should help keep it top of mind for consumers. With several model trims available, there’s an option for different lifestyles and price points. The SV Premium is more on the luxurious side and definitely ticks all the boxes in terms of creature comforts.

With good looks, a fresh new cabin, lots of features and decent driving dynamics, the Rogue remains a very strong contender in the segment.
