Road Test: 2025 Ram 1500 Limited

The Ram 1500 has undergone a makeover for 2025 that is more than skin deep. In addition to a new exterior design and an enhanced cabin experience, the 2025 Ram 1500 introduces a new generation of engine technology that the automaker has branded as Hurricane engines and a new top trim called Tungsten.

We tested the Limited trim, which is two tiers below that but remains packed with great features.

The base price of the tester is $90,045, with optional features bumping the final price tag up to $98,248.

Additional equipment included the Trailer Tow Group ($1,495) for enhanced capabilities, $550 for the Ivory Tri-Coat pearl exterior, Bed Utility Group ($1,095), a tri-fold soft tonneau cover ($750) and the multi-function tailgate, which is an additional $1,095.

Powertrain: The 2025 Ram 1500 has three engine options for consumers, two 3.0L variants and a 3.6L Pentastar V6 eTorque.

Our tester had the 3.0L straight-six turbo powerplant which delivers 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque. A high output version of the same engine offers up 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque.

That power all gets moved through an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is controlled through a rotary dial in the dash. Still not a setup I am overly fond of.

The Ram 1500 provides a maximum towing capacity and payload of 5,253 kg (11,580 lbs) and 1,043 kg (2,300 lbs) respectively, as well as up to 611 cm (24 inches) of water fording for increased versatility.

Exterior: While remaining instantly recognizable as a Ram trunk, the 2025 model has been given a sleeker and more modern appearance.

The Ram grille has been made larger and is available in eight different version to give each variant its own unique style. On Limited trims and above, the truck is equipped with new premium LED headlamps, including twin bi-functional projector headlamps.

The taillights are also revamped, featuring a jewelled design across the lineup.

The truck body’s design features a character line that runs the length of the vehicle, tying the entire design together.

Our tester was equipped with the optional power tailgate, which can be controlled via the key fob. The multi-function tailgate also means there is extra versatility to the Ram’s cargo bed.

For those using the Ram as a work truck – yes pickup trucks still do that, despite their stylish designs and luxury-like cabins – the 1500 Limited has lockable RamBoxes on either side of the truck bed. These are weatherproof and illuminated, making them very usable.

The Ram 1500 Limited featured nicely styled 20-inch rims.

And thankfully, given the Ram’s ride height, there’s a set of power retractable steps that fold out when you open the passenger doors.

Interior: Seated inside the Ram 1500 Limited, you are welcomed by a modern and rather luxurious cabin.

With room for five comfortably, the premium quilted leather-faced seating is very comfortable.

In the Limited trim, the cabin features a Black Ebony open pore real wood veneer trim, a nice feature that enhances the overall feel of style in the cabin.

The driver gets some enhancements as well, with the addition of a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, which can be customized with roughly two dozen menus to choose from.

The rear seat, as has become the norm on pickups, has a base that flips up to increase stowage capacity, while also allowing space to keep items out of sight under the seat when it is brought back down.

Infotainment: Having always been a fan of the Uconnect system, testing the 2025 Ram 1500 with the latest version of the software didn’t disappoint. The Uconnect 5 adds more connected services and features for enhanced usability.

With either a 12-inch or 14.5-inch centre display, touchscreen functionality delivers an intuitive user experience.

A feature I enjoyed discovering is the 10.25-inch screen facing the passenger seat, a unique feature I haven’t seen anywhere else. The screen allows the passenger to act as a co-pilot of sorts, enabling them to set navigation destinations and manage devices. Via an HDMI connection, it can also be used for entertainment and the passenger can access and view the Ram’s exterior cameras.

Drive: The new engine developed for the Ram truck lineup is formidable and quite refined. Power delivery is smooth and there’s no turbo lag to speak of, and the eight-speed gearbox deliver smooth shifts under a variety of conditions.

The full-size Ram benefits from a relatively smooth ride thanks to a rear suspension that uses a more traditional coil spring setup. The Limited had an optional air suspension, allowing the driver to adjust the ride heigh as desired, which comes in handy for off-road driving, but also can improve fuel efficiency.

Conclusion: The enhancements to the ever-popular Ram 1500 have been well executed. From the overall styling update to the refined new engine offerings, the pickup truck will surely remain front and centre in the minds of those who require these vehicles for work or other purposes.

The Ram 1500 Limited is certainly more than just a work truck, offering the niceties of a more luxurious vehicle with then utilitarian features often sought after by consumers.
