An increasing number of manufacturers are taking initiatives to reduce their footprint and offer more environmentally-friendly alternatives to their customers. The Canadian Green Car Award has been created in order to reward and hopefully encourage these initiatives.
For the 2017 edition, the committee announced 18 contenders to the title of Canadian Green Car, separated into six distinct categories. Today, the winners in each categories have been named, marking the final stretch leading to the ultimate title.
The panel of professional, and somewhat serious, automotive journalists, put all nominated models to the test. Each vehicle received a score out of 10 for criterion such as driving experience, perceived quality, features for price and corporate environmental sensitivity. Previously, the CGCA committee had chosen three nominees to represent each of the categories evaluated that included fully electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles, hybrid vehicles, internal combustion engine/diesel engine vehicle, three-row vehicles, and fun vehicles.
After compiling over 2,000 points in data gathered from the judges votes, a winner was named in every category, narrowing the list nominees from 18 to six. The ultimate winner will be named on April 7th, 2017 at the Green Living Show in Toronto. Stay tuned! Here are the six winners of their respective segment now competing for the ultimate title of Canadian Green Car of the year.
