This Month In Watches: Spring Swatches

Spring is in the air, cherry blossoms are in bloom— and thanks to Swatch Group, potentially on your wrist as well. Here are Vicarious’ top four picks for some seasonally-appropriate wristwear from the Swiss company.

Blancpain X Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Pink Ocean

The oldest existing watch brand established in 1735 has recently collaborated with Swatch to release a fun take on its heritage Fifty Fathoms scuba diving line. Called Pink Ocean for obvious reasons, the diver features a durable Bioceramic 42.3-millimetre case, bezel and crown, beautiful gradient dial and date indicator tucked uniquely between 4 and 5 o’clock, and two-piece NATO-style strap made using recycled fishing nets.

The in-house SISTEM51 mechanical calibre, comprised of just 51 parts and providing an impressive 90-hour power reserve, can be previewed through the sapphire glass caseback that partially displays the internals as well as pink ocean-themed artwork. Finally, five inspirational inscriptions circle the edges: PASSION FOR DIVING – LICENCE TO EXPLORE – OCEAN BREATH – PROTECT WHAT YOU LOVE and IMMERSE YOURSELF.

Poppingly Pink

This two-tone cherry-blossom-coloured quartz chronograph boasts a sun-brushed dial, trio of sub dials, white date window at 3 o’clock, numbered indices at 12, 4 and 8 o’clock, and lumed arrow-shaped silver hour and minute hands with white seconds hand. The bright bezel, crown, pushers and lugs are a perfect complement to the light pink details and matching structured matte silicon strap.

The stainless steel 43-millimetre case is a versatile size, and the watch is water resistant to 30 metres. Also available in two other variants: the black/brown Canyon Chaser and blue/green Dusk Thru the Leaves.

For those that want to make a statement, the Big Bold Bioceramic Canyon is, well, big and bold. The oversized 47-millimetre case is sure to turn heads, especially as virtually everything is finished in a tonal matte earth-red. The minimalistic dial offers a little contrast, coated in a more concentrated shade of red with black baton hour and minute hands and a second hand inspired by a compass needle.

Changing the coin battery powering the quartz movement is a breeze due to the convenient cell hatch on the back. The silicon strap fastens via an aluminum clasp, and water resistance is rated at 3 bars.

Omega X Swatch Mission to the Pink Moonphase

The latest entry into the wildly popular Omega and Swatch mashup series is the Mission to the Pink Moonphase. As a twist on the standard chronograph, the 1/10th second subdial at 2 o’clock is swapped out for a moon phase indicator depicting the lunar cycle. A couple of fun easter eggs is the model’s name that secretly appears between the two pink moons under UV light, and the tiny heart embossed on the top push button. Rather than a traditional tachymeter around the bezel, the black pulsometer scale helps wearers measure their heart beats per minute.

The pearlescent opaline dial and contrasting white stitching on the signature Velcro strap really pops, and the hands and stick indices all glow an ethereal pink in dim lighting courtesy of the Grade A Super-LumiNova treatment. Flip the timepiece over to reveal the signature textured moon graphic found here in a pink version.
